Earlier, Akshay had hinted at a film announcement on his 57th birthday with a video on Instagram. He wrote, “Ganpati Bappa Morya! What could be better than a day like today to hint at something special coming your way? The reveal is set for my birthday. Stay tuned (sic)!” He was teasing Bhooth Bangla, his new film with director Priyadarshan. The duo is reuniting after their last film together, Khatta Meetha, which was released 14 years ago.

While specifics about the new project are still scarce, it’s rumored to involve elements of black magic and feature three leading ladies. Reports suggest the film will start shooting later this year and continue into the first half 2025. Locations for the film include Hyderabad, a forest in Kerala, Sri Lanka, and Gujarat.
In a recent interview, Priyadarshan mentioned that the film will blend horror and fantasy with humor and is being produced by Ekta Kapoor. After wrapping up his documentary series on the Ram Mandir, Priyadarshan is excited to dive into this new project with Akshay.
