Atishi’s Ascent: Delhi Prepares for a New Era Amid Kejriwal’s Exit
Delhi’s Chief Minister-designate, Atishi, along with her cabinet, will officially take the oath of office on September 21, as confirmed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday. Initially, it was planned for only Atishi to be sworn in, but it was later decided that her entire council of ministers would join her for the ceremony.
This transition follows Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation as chief minister on Tuesday, after which Atishi moved quickly to claim the opportunity to lead the national capital. Delhi’s Lt. Governor, V.K. Saxena, suggested September 21 for the swearing-in ceremony, marking a significant moment in AAP’s governance.
In an unexpected move, Kejriwal will forgo his security detail and leave the chief minister’s residence within 15 days, choosing to live as a “commoner.” The upcoming oath-taking ceremony is expected to be a modest affair at Raj Niwas, reflecting the circumstances surrounding Kejriwal’s departure. Atishi has expressed her sadness over the situation, urging party members and supporters to refrain from congratulating her during this poignant time.
