Modi’s Third Term Swearing-In Rescheduled Amid Intense Negotiations
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third-term swearing-in ceremony has been rescheduled from June 8 to June 9 at 6 p.m. due to “unavoidable circumstances,” sources revealed. The delay is primarily due to ongoing intense negotiations with the BJP’s major allies.
Coalition Challenges and Key Ministries
Despite the NDA securing over 290 seats, the BJP fell short of the 272-seat majority in the Lok Sabha. This has elevated two of its allies, Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP from Andhra Pradesh and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) from Bihar, to the role of kingmakers. The JD(U) secured 12 seats while the TDP won 17, making their support crucial for forming the government.
Behind the scenes, there is tough bargaining for key ministries. The BJP is standing firm on retaining control over six crucial ministries: Home, Finance, Defence, Railways, Law, and Information Technology.
Ceremony Details and Diplomatic Engagements
The swearing-in ceremony, set to take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, will be attended by hundreds of guests, including foreign dignitaries. Invitations have been sent to leaders from neighboring countries such as Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Mauritius, underscoring India’s commitment to regional cooperation and diplomatic ties.
Global Interest and Leadership Continuity
The guest list, comprising heads of state and high-ranking officials, reflects the Modi government’s third-term priorities. An official noted that the presence of foreign dignitaries will highlight global interest in India’s political landscape and the continuity of Modi’s leadership.
