NEET-UG 2024 Results Controversy
The NEET-UG 2024 results have ignited a pressing controversy, triggering a flood of complaints from concerned parents. They have swiftly approached district higher officials, urgently calling for the Central Government’s intervention, as they suspect a massive nationwide scam.
Allegations and Concerns
Parents are deeply unsettled by the timing of the results. The National Testing Agency (NTA) was slated to announce the results on June 14 but surprisingly released them on June 4, coinciding with the day of vote counting. This has sparked serious allegations that the premature announcement was a deliberate ploy to divert attention from the issue.
NTA’s Response
In response, the NTA clarified that candidates who lost examination time were compensated with grace marks. “The loss of examination time was ascertained, and such candidates were compensated with grace marks. So, the candidate’s marks can be 718 or 719,” the NTA explained.
Parents’ and Students’ Plight
Krishan Sharma, a distraught parent from Jind district, whose daughter was adversely affected, has voiced his anguish over the discrepancies. He pointed out that an unprecedented number of 67 students achieved perfect scores of 720 out of 720. Moreover, six top scorers have consecutive seat numbers and are from Haryana, hinting at a possible collusion.
Questionable Scores
Scores of 718 and 719 have also surfaced on social media, raising eyebrows. Given that each NEET question carries four marks, and there is a negative marking scheme, achieving these scores seems improbable. The high cut-offs have dashed the hopes of many candidates aspiring to join government medical colleges.
Criticism of NTA’s Approach
Parents are vehement in their criticism of the NTA’s approach. They argue that the NTA should have awarded grace marks instead of providing extra time to those who lost examination time. Since the exam was conducted offline, they believed it was feasible to give additional time. They allege that the decision to award grace marks is part of a scam to benefit certain individuals, a claim that severely undermines students’ and parents’ morale.
Call for Action
Krishan Sharma, in a desperate plea, called the situation a violation of students’ right to equality and urged the authorities to promptly address the plight of the affected students. Harish Vasisth, the additional deputy commissioner in Jind district, confirmed receiving numerous complaints from parents and acknowledged that their concerns appear genuine. The matter is being urgently escalated to higher officials for immediate action.
