The University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 18 faced a major setback when it was discovered that the exam paper had been leaked 48 hours prior. According to sources from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the leaked paper was being sold on the dark web. It encrypted social media platforms for ₹6 lakh.
Government’s Response: Exam Cancelled
In a swift and decisive move, the Ministry of Education, Government of India, canceled the examination on June 19, just a day after it was conducted. This resolute decision aimed to uphold the integrity and transparency of the examination process.
Legal Action and Investigation
The CBI has registered a case against unidentified individuals under IPC Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) based on a complaint filed by the Secretary of the Department of Education. The investigation, in collaboration with the NTA, will delve into the origins of the leak and scrutinize various examination centers.
