BJP Secures Third Term in Arunachal Pradesh, SKM Wins in Sikkim

Election Results Overview

On Sunday, the BJP returned to power in Arunachal Pradesh, while the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) secured a second term in Sikkim. Voting for 60 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh and 32 in Sikkim occurred on April 19.

Arunachal Pradesh: BJP’s Victory

The BJP’s victory in Arunachal Pradesh for the third consecutive time is a significant political development. The Election Commission announced that the BJP secured 46 of 60 assembly seats, with results for 50 seats declared on Sunday. The ruling party had already won ten unopposed seats, including Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s. This victory underscores the BJP’s strong foothold in the region.

  • National People’s Party (NPP): 5 seats
  • People’s Party of Arunachal: 2 seats
  • Nationalist Congress Party (NCP): 3 seats
  • Congress: 1 seat
  • Independent Candidates: 3 seats

Sikkim: SKM’s Second Term

In Sikkim, the SKM, under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, has achieved a resounding victory by securing 31 out of 32 seats. This landslide win is a testament to the people’s trust in the SKM’s governance. The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) managed to secure just one seat in the elections.

Chief Minister’s Statement

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, in a heartfelt statement, attributed the SKM’s historic win to the relentless efforts of the party workers and the unwavering trust of the people. He expressed his deep gratitude for the support, saying:

“It is because of the love and trust of the people that we have managed to secure in the past five years in government. Besides, party cadres worked very hard. Now we have the next five years to give our 100 percent for the people of Sikkim.”

Tamang made these remarks at a gathering in Gangtok’s Paljor Stadium.
