On Sunday, the BJP retains power in Arunachal Pradesh, while the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) secured a second term in Sikkim. The voting occurred on April 19 for 60 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh and 32 in Sikkim.

The Election Commission announced a significant political development as the BJP emerged victorious, winning 46 seats in Arunachal Pradesh. This marks the party’s third consecutive term in power, a testament to its growing influence in the region. Results for 50 of the 60 assembly seats were declared on Sunday, as the ruling party had already secured ten seats uncontested. Chief Minister Pema Khandu was among the ten party candidates who won uncontested.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the National People’s Party (NPP) secured five seats, the People’s Party of Arunachal got two, and the NCP secured three. The Congress managed only one seat; Independent candidates won in three constituencies.

In Sikkim, the SKM, led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, secured a successful second term, winning 31 seats, while the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) won one seat. This victory underscores the SKM’s popularity and its ability to maintain governance.

Following the landslide victory, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attributed the success to the hard work of SKM workers and the people’s trust in his government. He expressed gratitude to the people of Sikkim for their support and pledged to dedicate the next five years to serving them wholeheartedly.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Ajit Pawar, made significant gains, winning three assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh. This victory, with newly elected MLAs Nikhil Kamin, Likha Soni, and Toku Tatum, is a testament to the party’s growing influence and a significant step towards achieving national party status. NCP Working President Praful Patel noted their previous successes in Maharashtra and Nagaland, bringing them closer to their goal.
