Indian Tourist Vanishes After Falling into Kuala Lumpur Sinkhole
Search Efforts Continue
Five days after a 48-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh fell into a sinkhole in Kuala Lumpur, search operations are still underway, according to the Indian High Commission in Malaysia. The incident occurred on August 23 when the pavement beneath her collapsed, and it’s believed an underground water current swept her away.
Search Operations
The Indian embassy has provided an update, noting that the search teams are tirelessly using various techniques to locate the woman. The operation involves multiple agencies, including the police, fire and rescue department, Indah Water Consortium, and civil defense forces. They employ high-pressure water jets, remote cameras, and ground-penetrating radar to search difficult-to-reach areas.
Victim Identified
The woman has been identified as Vijaya Lakshmi Gali. She was on vacation in Malaysia with her husband and friends, and they were scheduled to return home on Saturday. Witnesses reported that the walkway suddenly collapsed under her as she walked in the Dang Wangi area.

Previous Issues and New Sinkhole
Police Chief Rusdi Mohamad Isa mentioned that the area where the sinkhole occurred had experienced a soil slip last year, which was reportedly fixed. For safety reasons, local businesses have been advised to close temporarily.
Adding to the situation, The Strait Times reported a new sinkhole on August 28, just 50 meters from the original site. This latest collapse happened early in the morning following a storm the previous night, leading to a complete street closure for vehicles and pedestrians.
Support for the Family
The Indian High Commission is maintaining close contact with the agencies involved in the search and is providing crucial international support to the family of the missing woman.
