Justice Prevails: NEET-UG 2024 Results Overhauled by Supreme Court

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has just released the revised NEET-UG 2024 results and the list of toppers, following a Supreme Court order to retract compensatory marks previously given to some students for a Physics question. To check your scores, visit the official website at exams.nta.ac.in. Additionally, the NTA has published the final answer key for CUET UG 2024, with results expected in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Initially, the NTA awarded extra marks to students who answered incorrectly due to an old Class 12 NCERT science textbook error. However, in a ruling that upheld the principles of fairness and equality, the Supreme Court decided on Tuesday that only one correct answer would be accepted, with no compensatory marks.

The issue arose when a student highlighted that “Question No. 29” in the Physics section had two possible correct answers when only one should have been accurate. The Supreme Court instructed the director of IIT Delhi to form a team of three experts to determine the correct answer and submit their findings by the next day. Based on the expert’s report, the court ruled that only option No. 4 would be correct for the Physics question on atomic theory.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan played a pivotal role in the NEET UG 2024 results declaration, ensuring they would be declared within two days, in line with the Supreme Court’s directives. As a result of the ruling, students who initially scored a perfect 720/720 will lose four marks.

The Supreme Court also rejected several petitions demanding the cancellation and retest of the NEET UG 2024 exam. Chief Justice Chandrachud stated there was no evidence of systemic leaks or other malpractices.

The NTA has faced significant political controversy and student protests over alleged large-scale malpractices, including question paper leaks and impersonation during the exam held on May 5. Despite this, the NTA has remained steadfast in its commitment to its mission. The NEET UG 2024 results, announced on June 4, were notable for 67 students achieving a perfect score 720. The exam saw participation from 13,31,321 female candidates, 9,96,393 male candidates, and 17 transgender candidates.
