Kannada Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa Arrested in Connection with Renukaswamy’s Murder
Kannada film actor Darshan Thoogudeepa was arrested and placed in a 6-day police custody on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a man named Renukaswamy, who allegedly made derogatory comments about Darshan’s close friend, actress Pavithra Gowda.
The incident began when Renukaswamy, an employee of a pharmaceutical company from Chitradurga, reportedly made offensive remarks on social media about Pavithra Gowda. Renukaswamy was found dead on June 9, and the police investigation has led to the arrest of Darshan, Pavithra, and 12 others. According to police sources, Renukaswamy was killed in a shed in Pattanagere, Kamakshipalya, which is linked to one of Darshan’s associates, and his body was later disposed of in a stormwater drain.
The Bengaluru Police Commissioner, B Dayananda, stated that the murder case was registered following the discovery of the body and the injuries observed. With the help of CCTV footage and technical evidence, the police identified the deceased as Renukaswamy. Residents alerted the police about the body, and an autopsy confirmed that he had been murdered. Eleven suspects were initially arrested, and their statements led to the detention of Darshan and Pavithra for further questioning.
The investigation is ongoing to determine Darshan’s exact involvement in the crime or any related conspiracy. The 47-year-old actor was apprehended from a hotel in Mysuru earlier in the day and brought in for questioning.
Renukaswamy’s parents are devastated by the loss. His father, Srinivasaiah, expressed his grief, saying, “He was my only son. He got married last year. I spoke to him on Saturday only. I want justice.”
