NEET-UG Paper Leak Case: CBI Makes New Arrests, Total Reaches 11
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made two new arrests in the NEET-UG paper leak case, bringing the total number of arrests to 11. This marks the first time the CBI has apprehended a candidate concerning the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam.
The arrested individuals include Sunny, an aspiring NEET-UG student from Nalanda, and Ranjit Kumar’s father, who hails from Gaya. Eight arrests have been made in Bihar, with others related to exam manipulation in Gujarat’s Latur and Godhra and a general conspiracy case in Dehradun.
Earlier, the CBI had detained the principal and vice principal of Oasis school in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, along with two others accused of providing safe locations for NEET candidates, where Bihar Police discovered burnt question papers.
The CBI’s investigation spans six FIRs, focusing on paper leaks in Bihar and cases of impersonation and cheating in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. The agency initiated its own FIR based on a directive from the Union Education Ministry for a comprehensive probe into the alleged irregularities during the examination.
NEET-UG, conducted by the NTA, is a crucial exam for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses in both government and private institutions. This year’s exam took place on May 5 across 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 overseas, with more than 23 lakh candidates appearing for the test.
