PM-KISAN Scheme: Supporting Millions of Farmers Across India
The latest installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme is set to benefit 9.3 crore farmers, with around ₹20,000 crore being distributed.
About PM-KISAN
Launched in 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme provides annual financial assistance of ₹6,000 to eligible farmers. This amount is distributed in three equal installments of ₹2,000 every four months, directly deposited into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
Government’s Commitment to Farmers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the government’s dedication to farmers’ welfare. “Ours is a Government fully committed to Kisan Kalyan. It is therefore fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to farmer welfare. We want to keep working even more for the farmers and the agriculture sector in the times to come,” he said.
Background and Purpose
The scheme, although launched in February 2019, was made effective from December 2018. It aims to provide income support to all landholding farmer families in the country, helping them meet their agricultural and domestic needs.
