Porsche Car Tragedy in Pune- Pune police arrest staffer of Sassoon General Hospital

On Monday, the Pune police arrested another staff member from Sassoon General Hospital in connection with the Porsche car crash involving a 17-year-old boy. This follows the earlier arrests of Dr. Ajay Taware, head of the hospital’s Forensic Medicine department, and Dr. Shrihari Halnor, the chief medical officer.

Dr. Taware and Dr. Halnor were taken into custody for allegedly manipulating blood samples and destroying evidence related to the case. A senior police official confirmed that Atul Ghatkamble, a hospital staffer working under Dr. Taware, was the latest arrest.

All three accused were presented in court, with the police seeking a 10-day custody to investigate the matter further. According to the police, the blood samples of the juvenile involved in the crash were swapped with another person’s samples under Dr. Taware’s direction. An official stated that the juvenile’s original blood samples were discarded and replaced.

The crime branch is currently investigating the case. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of May 19, involved a speeding Porsche driven by the minor, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals on a motorcycle.

Police allege that the teenager was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Initially, the Juvenile Justice Board granted him bail and asked him to write an essay on road accidents. However, following public outrage over the perceived leniency and a subsequent review application by the police, the teenager was sent to an observation home until June 5.

Additionally, the teenager’s father, a realtor, and his grandfather have been arrested in connection with the accident.
