JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna Arrested in Bengaluru Over Sexual Abuse Allegations
Prajwal Revanna, the JD(S) MP from Hassan, who is facing sexual abuse allegations, returned to Bengaluru from Munich on May 30. The 33-year-old grandson of JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda landed at around 1:00 am on May 31 and was subsequently arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Departure and Return Amid Controversy
Revanna reportedly left the country late on April 26 after hundreds of explicit video clips allegedly involving him began circulating. A video message released on Monday stated that he would appear before the SIT on May 31.
External Affairs Minister’s Statement
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar revealed a significant detail: the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) received a request to impound Revanna’s passport only on May 21, nearly a month after he fled to Germany.
Investigation and Arrest
Upon his arrival at Bengaluru airport, the SIT confiscated two suitcases as part of their ongoing investigation. Revanna, who has been suspended from the Janata Dal (Secular) party, was taken into custody by the SIT. He was brought to the CID office in Bengaluru and is expected to undergo a medical examination at a government hospital.
Moving Forward
The arrest marks a critical point in the investigation as the SIT continues to gather evidence and testimonies related to the charges against Revanna.
