Pro Kabaddi League Season 11 Promises Electrifying Action

The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) kicks off its second decade on October 18, marking a significant moment as it solidifies its status as one of India’s most beloved franchise sports, trailing only behind the IPL. Season 11 promises to be thrilling, with revamped teams and intriguing format changes that set the stage for a highly competitive tournament.

This year, we see a shift from the previous 12-city format to a three-legged structure. The first leg will occur in Hyderabad from October 18 to November 9, followed by Noida from November 10 to December 2, concluding in Pune from December 3 to 24. After that, the playoffs and finals will be held at a yet-to-be-announced venue, bringing us 137 kabaddi matches over the next three months.

One of the most talked-about changes this season is the emphasis on youth. All 12 teams have surpassed their New Young Player (NYP) quota, leading to surprising outcomes in the player auction. Established stars like Rahul Chaudhari went unsold, while Pardeep Narwal was signed for a modest ₹70 lakh. Defending champions Puneri Paltan, who retained almost their entire championship squad thanks to the NYP rule, set a trend that many franchises followed, focusing on fresh talent.

However, spending was still significant, with Tamil Thalaivas making Sachin Tanwar the most expensive signing at ₹2.15 Cr, closely followed by Guman Singh at ₹1.97 Cr and Haryana Steelers securing Iranian star Mohammedreza Shadloui Chiyaneh for ₹2.07 Cr.

Last season’s finalists, Puneri Paltan, remain strong contenders. They may have lost Shadloui, but they’re well-equipped to defend their title with a solid lineup that includes captain and league MVP Aslam Inamdar, Goyat, and new addition Ajith Kumar. Their unique attacking strategy, characterized by versatile raiders, makes them a formidable team.

The last runner-up, the Haryana Steelers, bolstered their defence with Shadloui. They aim to enhance their raiding capabilities alongside Vinay and Shivan Patare. Balance will be crucial for them to go one step further this season.

Tamil Thalaivas have also invested heavily in talent, with a dynamic coaching setup featuring Udaya Kumar and Dharamaraj Cheralathan. Their new signing, Sachin, specializes in do-or-die raids. With a well-rounded starting lineup, they could be dark horses for the title if they stay injury-free.

Bengal Warriors have retained their star raider, Maninder Singh, and strengthened their defence by bringing in Fazel Atrachali. However, their reliance on a few key players and a lack of all-rounders could pose challenges.

Gujarat Giants have signed an impressive 15 players, led by Guman Singh in raiding. They’ll aim to find their rhythm quickly with you they’ll, and they’ll have the potential for surprises.

Telugu Titans are also looking to improve, having retained key players like Pawan Sehrawat, who needs to expand his role beyond raiding to help lift the team from past struggles.

While Dabang Delhi and Patna Pirates may not have made significant moves, they’ve retained strong cores, setting the stage for a tightly contested race for playoff spots. The league’s focus on youth and athleticism may lead to even more intense matches, with raiders needing to adapt to increasingly well-organized defence.

As we gear up for what promises to be a thrilling season, keep an eye on the latest scores, schedules, and updates.
