Rahul Gandhi Accuses Rajnath Singh of Misleading Parliament

On Wednesday, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, criticized Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, alleging that Singh had misled Parliament regarding compensation for families of deceased Agniveers. Gandhi shared a video on X featuring the father of a deceased Agniveer, who claimed that the promised Rs 1 crore compensation had not been received by their family.

In his message, Gandhi emphasized the importance of truth and accused Singh of making false claims, particularly regarding compensation to martyred Agniveers. He referenced the father of Ajay Singh, an Agniveer martyr, who stated that despite Singh’s assurances, their family had not been assisted as promised.

Gandhi demanded that the defense minister apologize to Ajay Singh’s family, the armed forces, and the nation’s youth for allegedly misleading them.

The accusation arose after Rajnath Singh disputed Gandhi’s statements regarding the Agnipath military recruitment scheme in Lok Sabha. Singh asserted that the scheme, implemented after consultations with 158 organizations, guarantees Rs 1 crore compensation to Agniveers who die in service.

Singh urged Gandhi not to mislead Parliament and requested the Speaker to expunge Gandhi’s remarks on the Agnipath scheme. He also highlighted similar schemes in countries like the US and the UK as precedents.

In response, Gandhi stood by his position, stating that while Singh had his viewpoint, the truth was known to the Agniveers.
