The Prime Minister’s Chair? Gadkari’s Surprising Decline and What It Reveals

On Saturday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari revealed an intriguing behind-the-scenes moment from the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Speaking at a journalism awards event in Nagpur, Gadkari shared that an Opposition leader had approached him with a surprising offer: their support for him to become the Prime Minister. Despite the unexpected proposal, he turned it down, citing his lack of personal ambition for the role.

In his candid remarks, He explained, “When this person offered to back me as Prime Minister, I questioned why they should support me and why I should accept their support. Becoming Prime Minister has never been my goal. My commitment lies with my principles and my party, and I’m not willing to compromise on my values for any position.”

The 67-year-old Gadkari, who recently secured a hat-trick victory in Nagpur, emphasized that his steadfast adherence to his convictions is what he believes strengthens Indian democracy. He also took the opportunity to stress the importance of ethics in both journalism and politics.
