Amidst the ongoing discussions about the unexpected end of Season 1 of The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix, comedian Chandan Prabhakar, a key figure from The Kapil Sharma Show, has shared his thoughts. While there are reports suggesting that Netflix cut short the season due to underwhelming ratings, there’s no official confirmation yet. With only six episodes aired, the possibility of a second season remains uncertain, sparking speculation about the show’s future.
In an interview with HT, Chandan Prabhakar articulated, “Stepping out of the television domain and venturing into the realm of OTT entails a degree of hesitation within the team. Whenever we embark on a new show, its success is not guaranteed. Success tends to materialize organically; there’s no prescribed formula. However, it will eventually find its stride, albeit requiring time.”
He stressed the significance of considering audience feedback: “The team must listen to people’s perceptions and opinions about the jokes because we create the show for them. If audiences don’t find the entertainment they’re looking for, then what’s the point?”
Prabhakar expressed doubts about the show’s suitability for OTT platforms, suggesting that the previous format, designed for television, might not seamlessly transfer to Netflix. He explained, “The previous format was carefully tailored for Sony television, where my role was significant. It’s unlikely that the channel would approve the exact format for Netflix. Moreover, the team was eager to introduce innovation and novelty. Although subtle changes have been made, they might not be immediately noticeable.”
Despite the hurdles, Prabhakar and the team maintain a positive outlook on the show’s journey, drawing strength from their past experiences. He shares, “At first, things seemed ordinary, but with each episode, they transformed into something funnier. It all falls into place eventually. Therefore, I am confident that we will soon navigate through the current predicament.”
Prabhakar clarified his stance on returning to The Great Kapil Sharma Show, disclosing, “I am committed to an exciting project, to be announced shortly. This compelled me to take a hiatus from Kapil’s show. Diversifying from the familiar terrain is crucial; tethering oneself to one endeavor can stifle creativity and potential. I am pursuing my lifelong aspirations.”
Since its Netflix debut, The Great Indian Kapil Show has grappled with sustaining viewer interest. While episodes featuring Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol with Bobby Deol garnered praise, the show needed help maintaining momentum. Despite efforts to identify successful elements, the season concluded swiftly, leaving fans pondering its future.
As Season 1 draws close, uncertainties persist regarding its reception and potential renewal. Insights from industry stalwarts like Chandan Prabhakar impel Kapil Sharma and his team to reassess their comedic approach to captivate audiences in forthcoming projects. Whether The Great Indian Kapil Show will stage a comeback for another season remains uncertain, yet Prabhakar’s perspectives underscore the significance of delivering captivating entertainment to viewers.
Meanwhile, Comedian Sunil Pal recently took to Instagram to express delight over Kapil Sharma wrapping up The Great Indian Kapil Show. In a video shared by Pal, he contended that Kapil is not suited for the OTT platform, asserting that his primary audience prefers television.
“Achha hai aapka show band ho raha hai. You are not an OTT artist. Aap TV ke, ghar ghar ke artist ho,” remarked Sunil Pal.
While Kapil Sharma concluded the last episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show the previous week, Kiku Sharda, in an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, revealed that the wrap-up is temporary. He confirmed that the team will return with the second season of TGIKS after a brief hiatus.
“We have completed 13 episodes, and the second season will follow soon. The conclusion of the first season was planned this way from the outset. We have already outlined the next season, which will be released shortly. There won’t be a significant gap,” he assured.
Kiku further acknowledged the shift in format from television to digital, noting, “The show had longer runtimes on television, but adapting to different formats adds intrigue. There will be a brief hiatus now, but the second season will return promptly. It may seem like a wrap, but it’s temporary. We’ll be back in action soon.”
