PM Modi to Lead International Yoga Day 2024 in Srinagar

This year’s International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebration, a significant event in the health and wellness calendar, will be held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar on June 21. A notable highlight of the event is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation in the celebrations. This marks his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since his third term as prime minister began. His arrival is scheduled for June 20, and he will be part of the IDY festivities.

Event Preparations and Participants

Preparations are underway for the event, with arrangements to accommodate hundreds of participants, including numerous sports personalities. Participants have been selected and are currently training in various yoga ‘asanas’ that are expected to be performed, including those by the Prime Minister himself.

Theme: Yoga for Self and Society

This year’s powerful theme, ‘Yoga for Self and Society,’ underscores the profound impact of yoga on individual well-being and societal harmony. Minister of State Ayush Prataprao Jadhav eloquently highlighted yoga’s ability to foster physical, mental, and spiritual growth while promoting community unity, emphasizing its relevance in our daily lives.

Inclusive Efforts and Global Impact

Since its inception following a UN resolution in December 2014, IDY has evolved into a global movement promoting the adoption of yoga in daily life. The initiative has received widespread participation and support from various state governments and union territories across India.

Innovative Initiatives and Outreach

The Ayush ministry has taken proactive steps to enhance yoga awareness and participation. These include a video contest that encourages families to showcase harmonious yoga practices, and a Yoga Tech Challenge aimed at identifying and promoting innovations in yoga-related technologies and startups. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to fostering a culture of yoga in the country.

Virtual Connectivity and Statewide Participation

To foster a sense of unity and inclusivity, plans are underway to virtually connect all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir during the IDY event. This innovative initiative aims to engage approximately 50,000 people across the region, highlighting the widespread impact of yoga in promoting holistic well-being and unity.

Continued Commitment to Farmers

During a related event at Sher-e-Kashmir University, Union Minister Jitendra Singh emphasized Prime Minister Modi’s ongoing commitment to initiatives like the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. This scheme provides financial support to farmers and underscores societal respect and acknowledgment for their contributions as ‘annadata.’

Conclusion

The upcoming IDY celebrations in Srinagar promise to be a momentous occasion. They will blend tradition with innovation and reinforce yoga’s role in promoting health, unity, and cultural harmony nationally and globally.
