Porsche Car Tragedy In Pune: Pune Police got the permission to investigate the minor
The Pune police have requested the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) for permission to investigate a minor allegedly involved in a Porsche crash that resulted in the deaths of two techies. The incident occurred on May 19 in the Kalyani Nagar area. The 17-year-old, who police claim was driving the luxury car while intoxicated, is currently in an observation home until June 5. And, Pune police got permission to investigate the minor on Saturday for two hours. Told by the sources.
Request to Investigate
“We have written to the JJ Board and sought their permission to allow us to probe the minor,” said Shailesh Balkawade, additional police commissioner (crime). Shortly after the crash, the JJB had initially granted bail to the teenager, the son of builder Vishal Agarwal, requiring him to write a 300-word essay on road safety. However, following significant public criticism, the police re-approached the JJB, which modified its order and placed the minor in an observation home.
Arrests and Allegations
The minor’s father and grandfather have been arrested for allegedly coercing their family driver to take the blame for the accident. The driver was reportedly offered money and gifts and later threatened. Additionally, two doctors and a staff member from Sassoon General Hospital have been arrested for allegedly tampering with the teenager’s blood samples to show he was not intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Mother Under Investigation
Authorities have also placed the minor’s mother under scrutiny, suspecting her involvement in swapping her son’s blood sample with that of a woman. Pune Police officials have confirmed that they have not yet contacted her but will do so if necessary. Earlier investigations revealed that doctors at Sassoon Hospital had replaced the juvenile’s blood sample and discarded the original.
CCTV Footage and Further Investigation
The police have seized several DVRs containing CCTV footage from Sassoon Hospital and are currently reviewing them to determine who was present during the blood sample collection. The fatal crash occurred when the minor drove his luxury car into two IT professionals on a bike, killing them instantly. Initially granted bail, the minor was sent to an observation home for 14 days.
Efforts to Try as an Adult
Pune Police Commissioner stated that efforts are ongoing to try the minor as an adult. Meanwhile, two doctors from Sassoon Hospital, Ajay Taware and Atul Ghatkamble, were produced in court as their police custody ended. The police must interrogate them further to understand the circumstances under which the blood samples were swapped. Financial transactions related to the case are also being investigated, and the police have added charges under the Anti-Corruption Act, citing that the doctors, as government servants, accepted bribes to manipulate the blood samples.
Ongoing Investigations
The police continue to gather evidence, including eyewitness statements and social media chats, to uncover all details related to the case. They are also conducting searches to probe the financial aspects of the incident.
