Prajwal Revanna Sexual Abuse Case: Bail Denied Amid Serious Charges and Political Fallout

Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna’s bail plea was denied by a Bengaluru court on Wednesday, facing severe charges of rape and sexual harassment under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The gravity of these charges cannot be overstated, as they carry significant implications for the accused and the victims.

The Additional City Civil and Sessions Court Judge reserved judgment on Monday and rejected the bail plea today.
Prajwal Revanna, known for representing the Hassan Constituency in the 17th Lok Sabha and being one of the youngest parliamentarians, has been embroiled in controversies since explicit videos allegedly involving him surfaced before the recent Lok Sabha polls. He vehemently denies their authenticity, claiming they are fabricated to damage his reputation. These controversies, though unsettling, are crucial for the public to be aware of.

Despite his prominent political lineage as the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and nephew of former Karnataka Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy, Prajwal failed to retain his seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

The case took a dramatic turn when Prajwal was arrested on May 31 upon his return from Germany, where he was reportedly evading legal proceedings. Efforts to secure bail for him have been unsuccessful.

The sexual abuse allegations have also embroiled his family, with his brother Suraj Revanna facing similar accusations. Additionally, Prajwal’s mother, Bhavan Revanna, has been implicated in an abduction case related to one of the alleged victims.

Prajwal Revanna, a Bangalore Institute of Technology graduate, underwent a ‘spot mahazar’ (inquest) at his Holenarasipura residence concerning the latest case registered against him. A ‘spot mahazar’ is a legal process where the scene of a crime or incident is examined and documented by the authorities for investigation purposes.
