Subhadra Yojana and Other Schemes Transforming Women’s Lives
Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister, Pravati Parida, recently announced that over one crore women have registered for the Subhadra Yojana, a financial assistance scheme launched by the BJP government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this women-centric initiative on September 17, installing ₹5,000 to around 25.11 lakh beneficiaries on that day.
The Subhadra Yojana, named after Lord Jagannath’s sister, is part of the BJP’s commitments to women, outlined in their election manifesto. With the party assuming power in June, scheme aims to support eligible women aged 21 to 60 by providing ₹50,000 over five years, from 2024-25 to 2028-29. Each beneficiary will receive ₹10,000 annually, split into two installments: one on Raksha Purnima and the other on International Women’s Day (March 8).
In a recent event on October 9 at Chau Ground in Baripada, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi disbursed the first installment of ₹5,000 to an additional 35 lakh women. This second phase of payments also included those who missed the first round for various reasons. Women who submitted their applications by October 7 received their funds today.
